What to expect A once barren hill slope has been transformed into a fairly dense jungle. Expect to see a collection of indigenous plants suited for butterflies . The place has no natural source of water—so see some innovative use of harvested rainwater . Enjoy the sight of a small jungle stream carved out across the area . See some butterfly larvae and cocoons . Yes ! The conservatory is designed like a sanctuary and not a zoo . So butterfly sightings are not guaranteed , but with a little bit of patience and luck , you will see some beautiful ones ! You can expect to see some great effort put to create a safe haven for butterflies. Admission : Rs. 100 per person . Free for children below 3 years . Free entry for members of BCOG.
Opening hours : 9:30 am to 3:30 pm ; everyday including Sundays . Open on all public holidays also Best time to see more varied butterflies : At the conservatory , Butterflies are masters of their own free will and can fly in and out as they wish . We normally have the maximum number of butterflies to be seen on a bright sunny day at the conservatory between 11:00 am to 1:30 pm . ( October –February ) |

Getting there |

Public Transport: Public transport is intermittent . You will need to come to the Ponda bus-stand and embark on a minibus going towards Savoi verem . You will need to disembark at Pisgal. ( 6 kms from Ponda Bus stand ). Pick ups can also be organized from the Ponda bus-stand on Sundays on prior request .
By Tourist cabs Ideally you can club a visit to the conservatory along with your visit to the various spice farms which are all enroute ( so it will not involve extra costs or too big a detour ). The place is around 2 kms from Sahakari Spice Farms , 1/2 kms from Arya Cashew and 2 kms from Tropical Spice Plantation and approx 6 kms from Savoi Plantation.
Hotel Pick ups The conservatory has a facility for hotel pick up and drop. Charges will be as per distance of the hotel from the conservatory. |
